Bruce Sosei Hamana, a tea ceremony expert with the Urasenke Tankokai Federation, discusses the “chashitsu,” the traditional tearoom.

In this 75-minute lecture, Hamana explores how the structures are used in chado, “the way of tea,” and how they played a vital role in spreading an understanding of tea aesthetics outside of Japan.

This is an East Asian Garden Studies Lecture and the Genshitsu Sen Annual Tea Lecture.
